Alberta Family Histories Society - The Alberta Family Histories Society, based in Calgary Alberta, is a non-profit organization. Formed in 1980, its goal is to promote and encourage family genealogical research, particularly where it pertains to Alberta history and records.
Alberta Genealogical Society - the Alberta provincial genealogical society whose goal is to promote and encourage family genealogical research, particularly where it pertains to Alberta history and records.
FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Databases- Access to the extensive online FamilySearch databases from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ontario Genealogical Society - The major provincial genealogical body for the Province of Ontario with multiple branch offices.  This organization has benefit of having the pulse of the Canadian genealogy arena.
National Genealogical Society - The national US organization for promoting the study of family history and genealogy.  Great on US activities but has no relevance to Canadian research or elsewhere.

Genealogy Numbering Systems
There are several standards for documenting one’s family history or genealogical works for publication and these articles, though dated, are worth examining further. There are other more contemporary works out there that should be consulted for further information on these other standards for documentation:

Association of Professional Genealogists - Interested in hiring a professional genealogist?  Here is a list of our other peers connected to this fellow organization.
Board for Certification of Genealogists - Interested in becoming a certified genealogist or hiring a professional genealogist?  Here is a wonderful organization which provides testing, certification, skill-building ideas, and a roster of peer-reviewed certificants who belong to this organization.
Federation of Genealogical Studies - Primarily American, the organization represents hundreds of genealogical societies with join interests and missions.  Worth consulting if you are looking for a particular organization in a particular locality for added genealogical enquiry.
International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists - The International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists, internationally recognized as ICAPGen, is a professional credentialing organization dedicated to testing an individual’s competence in genealogical research. The organization is administered by a board of qualified Commissioners with many years of experience.  It is primarily the result of, and associations, with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and most of its members result from the disenfranchise of the accreditation program that was with this organization.  They also have a roster of members who are professional genealogists for hire.

Alberta Family Histories Society - The site contains some excellent collections of link for such areas of interest as:  research guides, how to deal with dates and addresses, maps, advice on getting started, book vendors, medical/health issues, methodological aids/courses, dictionaries and word lists, genealogical e-zines, general resources and research advice, military information, one name studies, additional search engines, surnames, social aspects of history, and other omnibus sites.
Ancestry - One of the largest genealogical search databases available for all worldwide activity, though requires a subscription.  With this said, however, it only covers a very small percentage of all of the genealogically-related material ever created!
Cyndi's List of Internet Genealogy Sites - Began in 1996, and updated regularly, this site has collected an amazing number of genealogical links to other sites on the World Wide Web.  Well worth consulting regardless of the period and region of your investigations.
