Many commercial sites dealing with genealogy demand a level of familiarity with the history, geography and customs of the region and period that most people simply don't have early on in their research phase. The research assessment service is designed for anyone researching their family lineage or requiring succession work on a line. If you have worked back to the ancestor/descendant of your search and have some basic information on his or her origins or existence, yet not sure where to proceed with the search, you should benefit from this application which will provide you with our assessment of your search potential and resources that should be consulted.
It is important to note that this is a consultation or assessment on your search ONLY. It does not provide for the actual research that may be involved with your case. It is designed to guide you on how best to proceed with your research needs, whether you wish to do the work yourself or pass it on to a genealogist or record agent. It will not provide you with a detailed, long-term plan of actions, as many next steps depend on the results of previous steps. Based upon the information you supply, we will determine what point your research has reached and decide on how you should now attempt to advance it. This may involve consulting some of the many reference works at our disposal. If relevant "hard facts" about your specific family come to light in the course of the assessment we will, of course, supply them to you. But such hard facts would be an added bonus rather than the norm.
You may contract our firm later to undertake the actual research work for you if you so wish, and the detail costs for that are included with this website, or you may undertake the research yourself. Should you wish to hire this firm, without the assessment, to undertake research work, simply refer to the section below titled Research Account Application.
The fee for the assessment service alone is $80 US ($100 CDN approximately) which is payable by secure credit card transaction online, iIf you wish. Just go to our GenStore, click on Services.
Credit card transactions for this website are handled off-site by a professional card processing company, PayPal. Confirmation of receipt of your research application and fees by our office will be notified by e-mail. The research assessment will be completed by our office and the response e-mailed within a maximum of three weeks of receipt of your application. Where supplementary 'hard facts' photocopies or printouts are to be sent, they will be mailed, subsequently, by post.
Requesting the assessment service is a two stage process. The first step takes you to the secure server where you will be asked to supply your credit card details. Once the transaction has been completed, you will be returned to this site and asked to fill-in an application form. The form is in four sections. It may seem like you are being asked for a great deal of information, but it is important that all aspects of your case are understood. It is not necessary to have information in all fields, but you must complete the basic ones indicated. You may wish to preview the research assessment application form before commencing the transaction.
In addition, if your research intentions are for other than Canadian, British, Irish or US research, please arrange to e-mail us in advance of ordering the Research Assessment at with brief details on the search, so as to ensure that we can provide you with the proper research assessment that you deserve.

If you are interested in hiring our firm for your research needs without an assessment enter your personal information and intended payment method on our form at Setting Up Your Research Account. You will then receive our brochure, information on our services, a pedigree chart for you to complete in order to provide us with information to begin research, and a Research Authorization and Request form for you to complete and sign and return with any other information you have on your search subject, prior to initiating your case file.
It is important to note that we must await receipt of your retainer and corresponding documents before initiating your case (refer to section titled Fee Options for fee structure and retainer requirements) and that our forms of payment for your research retainer and further fees can be accommodated via personal cheque, money-order/bank draft, wire transfer, or credit card. To wire transfer funds to our account, please us for the appropriate banking details. To use your credit card, which must be done over our website only, please proceed to the Research Application Form.
